August 6, 2025

Dear Weston Middle School Families:

Happy August, and an early welcome to the 2025-2026 school year!

We hope you are having a great summer! While we have been busy at WMS getting ready for the school year, we have also managed to relax and have some fun. In the Bluestein family, it has been a light travel year because we have two new kittens - Henry and Sam. We did manage to get to Washington DC and go to a Mets game (Go Mets!) In the Walters family, we enjoyed time in Vermont and on Block Island. Now, we are preparing for my son’s freshman year at Marist University.

As you begin to prepare for the upcoming school year, we encourage you to read and familiarize yourself with the following information. The PowerSchool portal will be going live on August 22nd. This will allow you to access student schedules. Please be aware of communication from the district that will be coming in a separate email on August 8th about updating your demographic information in PowerSchool. In order to access student schedule information on August 22nd, all demographic information must be updated by August 21st. Any demographic updates after that could delay (by 24 hours) your ability to access your child’s schedule.

Bus Riders/Walkers/Bike Riders: We highly encourage students to take the bus. The front bus loop is reserved for buses during arrival and dismissal (please no cars). Students who take the bus, walk, or ride their bikes should enter through the main entrance at the front of the building and will be directed to the old gym where they will wait for the 7:35 bell.

Drop-off and Pick-Up by Car takes place at the rear of the Middle School on the recess blacktop near the cafeteria. Students should arrive no earlier than 7:20 a.m. We ask drivers to pull as far forward in the drop-off loop as possible so that we can keep the traffic moving.  Students who are dropped-off by car will enter through the cafeteria entrance and will be directed to remain in the cafeteria where they will wait for the 7:35 bell.

Supplies:  All students will be receiving new Chromebooks when they return to school. Additionally, upon their return, all WMS students will be issued an agenda/planner to write down assignments. We also encourage students to bring reusable water bottles. We have water bottle fillers in various parts of the building.  We recommend labeling all personal belongings clearly with students’ names.  Here is a link to grade level supply lists including some organizational tips.

Lockers: Each student will be assigned a locker with a combination lock.  Students should not share their locker combination with other students. Students are also not allowed to tamper with lockers in any way including to prevent them from locking.  Please see the parent student handbook (linked on the next page) for more guidelines about locker use.

Lunch: Students may bring lunch from home or purchase items in our cafeteria. Students are only allowed to purchase items during their grade level’s assigned lunch time. To learn more about our culinary services including lunch menus and how to pay for your child’s lunch using My School Bucks, click here.

PTO: Parent Teacher Organization: We are fortunate to have a very supportive PTO. In fact, the school could not run effectively without their dedication and commitment to our students and our mission. Registration for the PTO will be opening soon, and we ask/encourage all families to both join the PTO and volunteer their time. You can access their website at WMS PTO.The PTO enriches the lives of our community in so many ways including through the sponsorship of author’s visits, social groups, science immersion projects, and the beautification of our school grounds. If you have questions, you will find them to be a valuable resource. We would also highly encourage you to volunteer and support PTO causes. Our PTO co-presidents for this year are  Maria Rowbotham and Livia Ruggeiro.

Communication Protocol:  We seek to promote effective, efficient communication.  In all  cases, our goal is for the staff member closest to the situation to respond to the question or resolve any concerns.  Please follow this protocol when you are wondering to whom you should address your question or concern.

Handbook: We have made some revisions to our handbook - both in content and format. We hope that this will make it a little easier to find information you need. As you peruse through it, a few things to keep in mind: Student_Parent Handbook 2025-26

  • Topics are listed in alphabetical order.

  • Information on behavior expectations is now listed under Code of Conduct. This 6-12 Code of Conduct was developed collaboratively by the district’s administrators to bring clarity to both students and families about how our school will address issues with student behavior. It aligns with Board of Education policies.

  • SOAR is our school’s acronym that stands for Safety, Ownership, Attitude, and Respect. It’s a teaching tool in that it allows us to define as a school what these words look and sound like in different parts of our school - like the hallways or in the cafeteria. We would encourage you to review this matrix together as a family.
