Dear Weston Middle School Community,

Happy July and happy summer! Whether your family is traveling to the far off reaches of the world or staying close to home, I hope you are finding plenty of time to relax and recharge.

I am very excited to be joining the WMS community as your new principal. I have spent the past 32 years of my career working at both the elementary and middle school levels. This includes stints as an elementary principal, middle school and elementary school assistant principal (at WIS), and fourth, fifth, and eighth grade teacher. Additionally, I have taught at the college level for upwards of 25 years and returned to school myself last year at UConn to complete an 093 executive leadership certificate.

A little about me: I love to travel - especially places related to history, am a huge sports fan (Go Mets, Giants, and UConn Huskies!), am active playing tennis and running, and read extensively. I am also somewhat of an empty nester. My older son Connor is living and working on his own, and my younger son Alex starts law school at UConn this fall.

While I have spent the past twelve years as an elementary principal, I have always felt a strong pull back to middle school—a place where I believe my leadership, empathy, and vision can make a lasting impact. There is something profoundly meaningful to me about guiding students through such a pivotal stage in their lives—when they are beginning to define who they are, explore their interests, and build the social and emotional skills that will shape their future.

My leadership style is built on some core values that include direct and transparent communication, a clear eyed and driven focus on student engagement and agency, continuous growth and improvement for staff and students, fostering meaningful connections to all stakeholders, and developing systems that create the conditions for a learning community to flourish. That’s who I am and what I hope to bring to WMS.

Weston Middle School is a special place with a smart, engaged, resourceful community. I can’t wait to meet your children and get started. Until then, if you have any questions or just want to say hi, please don’t hesitate to contact me at jasonbluestein@westonps.org . Have a great summer and see you soon!

Best,

Jason Bluestein
