Weston Middle School
May 11, 2025
Dear Weston Middle School Families:
On Monday, the sixth grade Inventors teams will be on a field trip to SoundWaters in Stamford. Please remember that students will need to pack a bag lunch for the field trip.
You are invited to the final session of the year for our “Coffee with Counselors” which will be held in the WMS library on Wednesday, May 14 at 9 am. The discussion will focus on transitions.
This Friday students will be dismissed at 11:45 am. Our cafeteria does not serve lunch on regularly scheduled early dismissal day. We have professional development for staff in the afternoon.
Our PTO book fair will take place in the library “Think Tank” this week. See below for more details. Students will visit the book fair with the ELA classes. Our spring concerts for band, chorus and orchestra are this week. Please see below for dates, times and locations. Thursday we will also host our annual Art Jam and Project Challenge Fair.
Panorama Survey It is time to complete our spring survey administration. The Panorama climate surveys provide an opportunity to gather comprehensive data on the experiences and perceptions of students, staff, and the broader community. Your feedback is important to us. The survey opened on Sunday, May 4th, and we are asking you to complete it by Saturday, May 31st:
Family Survey Link: https://surveys.panoramaed.
If you have more than one child in the Weston Public Schools, please complete one survey for each child. The survey is anonymous. Middle School students and staff will complete surveys during the school day on May 21.
The Wait Until 8th pledge—in which families commit to delay giving smartphones to kids until the end of 8th grade—is active in Weston. Over the last year, families at HES and WIS have signed the pledge, including about 30% of the current 5th grade class. Parent-organizers would love to continue the effort as we head to WMS. More information has surfaced about the impact of smartphones and social media on children's mental health and development—Jonathan Haidt's book "The Anxious Generation" has presented findings on depression, anxiety, bullying and suicide rates. The benefits of delaying smartphones can be especially powerful for our rising middle schoolers as they face the emotional rollercoaster of puberty, social pressures, etc. This is, of course, a personal choice for each family, but organizers are sharing information to make parents aware and to build solidarity.
BOOK JOY is coming to WMS with the PTO's Scholastic Book Fair! May 13-15, including during the Art Jam! ONLY E-Wallet and credit /debit cards will be accepted. A sign-up for parent volunteers will be forthcoming. Please set up an E-Wallet for your child here: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/
