Dear Weston Middle School Families:
For 40 years, March has been designated by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) as Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM®). The positive impact of music education in the lives of students lasts a lifetime. Therefore, ensuring equitable access to music education for the youngest members of our society—students—is paramount.
Every day, in classrooms and rehearsal rooms across our school district, music educators dedicate themselves to reaching all students with life-changing musical experiences. Parents, administrators, and the wider community often only see the wonderful results of music performances; however, we miss the months of practice and rehearsals and more importantly the learning process that takes place to make it all happen.
Throughout the month of March, our schools will celebrate our exceptional music program with building-wide activities and in-school performances featuring student musicians. We encourage members of our community to acknowledge and celebrate music education as an essential part of every student’s educational journey!
Music in Our Schools Month (MIOSM) Schedule of Activities
Weston Middle School students will participate in March Madness Music Brackets featuring “Staff Favorites” all month long on the Morning Warrior show! Our budding student musicians will give lobby performances throughout the month and successfully auditioned students will perform in the Western Region Honors Ensembles. Join us for our Band Side-By-Side Concert with the high school on March 13th!
At Weston High School, Music in Our Schools month kicks off with a Music Department trip to the Disney Imagination Campus for workshops and performances! Tri-M Music Honor Society members have organized Lobby Concerts, a school-wide Music Poster Display featuring diversity in music and a special Music Kahoot during PACT! Join us for the school musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, the weekend of March 28th! Get your tickets at www.whscompany.com!
Attention 8th Grade Families During the 8th grade end-of-year breakfast, the students watch a slideshow of themselves. We are asking for ONE to THREE pictures of your student. Pictures can be from any years of your student’s life. Photos should be school/activity-related —school shots, sports pictures, friends and activities in school, shots with siblings, etc. No outside photos where kids might feel left out, i.e., birthday parties, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, etc.
Pictures were due Jan 31. We need at least one photo from every student, or we cannot run the slideshow. Your timely cooperation is appreciated. If you haven’t submitted, please do so asap.
