WMS Week Ahead 02/09/2025

Posted Date: 02/10/2025

February 9, 2025

Dear Weston Middle School Families:

This Friday, February 14,  we will have an early dismissal for students.  We will dismiss at 11:45 am.  We do not serve lunch on scheduled early dismissal days.  With the upcoming February Break, my next week ahead email will be Sunday, February 23.

On Monday, February 10, Rabbi Michael Friedman will speak to our seventh graders.  Rabbi Friedman was originally scheduled to speak to our seventh graders as part of Holocaust Remembrance Day two weeks ago, but was unable to attend.  His remarks will address the recent incident of antisemitic vandalism that was discovered in the seventh grade boys restroom on January 31.

Wednesday evening there will be a program for 8th grade students and their parents/guardians to learn more about programs and offerings at Weston High School.  This program will begin at 7 pm in the Weston High School Auditorium.

Student Government Update:  Our SGA is sponsoring a Spirit Week with different dress themes for each day:

Monday, February 10:  Hoodie Day

Tuesday, February 11:  Black and White Day

Wednesday, February 12:  Weston Colors Day (Blue and Gold)

Thursday, February 13:  Throwback Thursday (Dress like your favorite decade)

Friday, February 14:  Red and Pink Day

St Baldrick’s Event  Please join the Weston High School St. Baldrick’s club on Saturday, March 1st for our annual head shaving community event. Since it was started seven years ago, the WHS St. Baldrick’s Club has raised over $300,000 to fund research for childhood cancers. Each year over 50 shavees raise money by pledging to shave their heads live at our event. This is a super fun community night with entertainment, food and drinks included in the ticket price. Here’s the link to sign up as a shavee https://www.stbaldricks.org/events/mypage/13187/2025

Weston-Siversk Sister City Pen Pal Program  The Weston-Siversk Sister City Program is running a Pen Pal Program for Middle Schoolers with students in Ukraine.  If your child would enjoy being a Pen Pal with a middle school student in Weston's Ukrainian sister city, Siversk, please contact Iryna at akolzina29@gmail.com. We have three Siversk girls who are interested in being pen pals: Albina (11 y.o.), Nadiya (13 y.o.) and Anna (13 y.o.)  The commitment is only 3-5 letters throughout the school year, and can be done at home on your student's own time, or during a potential fun letter writing night with other WMS pen pals!  This is an amazing opportunity to support students in Ukraine who could use a letter to brighten their day.

Connect  This Wednesday’s connect activity will focus on “Sharing our Similarities, Celebrating our Differences.”

Communication Protocol  As a reminder, please refer to this communication protocol when you have a question or concern that needs to be addressed.  We always try to resolve issues with the staff member who is closest to the situation.  If you need to report a student absence, please call our absence line:  203-221-6361
