Dear Weston Middle School Families:
This week begins with our traditional celebration of Veterans Day at Weston Middle School. This is always a special day for our students and staff. Please see the details below. We encourage students and staff to wear red, white and blue on Monday. Our fall food drive to support the Weston Food Pantry kicks off this week as well. We hope to see many of you on Wednesday for our “Coffee with Counselors”. On Thursday I will present our school improvement plan at the general PTO meeting.
Veterans Day, Monday, November 11, 2024
Weston Middle School will sponsor a number of events on Monday to celebrate Veterans Day. We will host a breakfast for Veterans and their spouses, gather for an all-school Assembly and provide a Living History session with the 8th grade students. We encourage students and staff to wear red, white and blue on Monday.
SGA Fall Food Drive Our Student Government Association (SGA) will be sponsoring a food drive from Monday, November 11 through November 18 to benefit the Weston Food Pantry. At any point during the drive, students may have students bring donations to the stage in the cafeteria. On the last day of the drive, SGA representatives will visit each room to collect any remaining donations. Warrior points will be awarded to teams that have at least 2 participating homerooms with ten bags per homeroom to qualify as a participant.
Coffee with Counselors Our next 'Coffee with Counselors' will take place on November 13th at 9:00 in the LLC. We will be discussing the book, "The Anxious Generation" by Jonathan Haidt in a multi-part series. This book highlights how the transition from a play-based childhood to a phone-based childhood have led to the impediment of cognitive and social development and a mental health crisis among youth. We will also discuss how the book promotes more unsupehttp://www.westonps.org/
Guest Speaker Our seventh and eighth graders will attend a presentation with ninth graders in the WHS Auditorium on November 21 by Max Stossel entitled “We’ve been sneaking into your brains”. The presentation will discuss the impact of smartphones and social media on our brains and lives. There will be an evening presentation for parents/guardians that evening at 7 pm in the WHS Auditorium. We would like to thank the Weston PTOs for providing the funds for these presentations.
The Weston-Siversk Sister City Program is running a Pen Pal Program for Middle Schoolers with students in the Ukraine, If your child (7-8th grade) would enjoy being a Pen Pal with a middle school student in Weston's Ukrainian sister city, Siversk, please contact Barabara Groves at BGroves20@Gmail.com. The commitment is only 3-5 letters throughout the school year, and can be done at home on your student's own time, or during a potential fun letter writing night with other WMS pen pals! This is an amazing opportunity to support students in Ukraine who could use a letter to brighten their day.
