Dear Weston Middle School Families:
Please note that Weston Public Schools are closed Monday, October 14, in honor of Columbus/Indigenous Peoples Day. This Friday, October 18, 2024 our 7th grade students will be heading off to the Adventure Park in Bridgeport for their first field trip of the year.
As we near the end of the first quarter (October 31), this would be a good time to sit down with your child to review their grades in PowerSchool. There may still be time to turn in missing assignments and to make up any quizzes, tests or other assessments.
I hope that many of you will be able to join us this Wednesday for “Coffee with Counselors” (see details below). Part of the discussion will include tips on how to support your child: advocate for themselves, use PowerSchool appropriately, and communicate with their teachers via email.
Career Day for our 8th graders is not until Friday, March 28, 2025 but we are already planning to make sure that it is a successful experience for everyone. We rely on parents and community members to help us in this endeavor. If you are interested in sharing your career path with our students, please reach out to our 8th grade counselor, Lauren Davi via email laurendavi@westonps.org.
Yondr Pouch Inspection We will be inspecting Yondr pouches on Wednesday, October 16, during homeroom. Students will be asked to bring their backpacks with their Yondr Pouches to homeroom. As a reminder, students should always keep their pouches in their backpacks in the locked position. The purpose of the inspection is to detect any damage to the pouches and to make sure that students have not lost/misplaced their pouches. Teachers continue to report that students are much more engaged and less distracted during the school day this year and attribute this change to the implementation of our Yondr pouch policy.
Short Wharf Musical: We are pleased to announce this year’s middle school musical: The Music Man, Jr! All students who wish to try out must sign up for a time slot on October 21 or 22 after school in the chorus room. All students wishing to be part of the cast must also attend the dance portion of the call back audition on October 24. Students must wear sneakers for the dance audition.
SGA Update The Student Government Association is sponsoring a medical supply drive beginning on Wednesday, October 16 to benefit the people of Floreana Island, Ecuador. Mrs. Nolle-Berg and Mrs. Welsh traveled there as part of their studies in the Galapagos over the summer and learned of serious needs in this very small island community. Our WMS SGA students have put together a drive to provide Floreana Island's only doctor basic medical supplies to care for the population of approximately 150 residents. Please consider making a donation of goods to support our students' international outreach. Fliers with suggested items will go home with students on October 15. Please reach out to our SGA Advisors, Mrs. Nolle-Berg or Mr. Marone, with any questions.
Roadwork on Route 57 We have received notice from the Selectmen's Office that this week, Tuesday the 15th and Wednesday the 16th, the Town will be milling and resurfacing a portion of Route 57 in Weston from Trails End Road to Christopher Hill Road. The work is scheduled to take place from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday to Wednesday. The road will still be open, but anyone traveling in that direction should expect delays. Also, please be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions.
